Home-made Natural Insect Repellent

YAY! The mosquito repellent I concocted before I left for my most recent holiday to Thailand and Vietnam works perfectly! The mozzies don’t come near me! Here’s what I used: I purchased a small (75ml) bottle of Bio Oil from a pharmacy. Coconut oil would work just as well and both would be beneficial for your skin (although more so the coconut oil). Because I was travelling with overhead luggage only, the bottle content needed to be no more than 100ml in order to security liquid limitation allowances. I added several drops of both lemon and  citronella essential oils. That’s it!  I can’t say how many drops. I just kept adding and smelling until the fragrance seemed strong enough. It works for me! And works for my travelling companion too; my brother who recently fought his way through a cancer operation. Now he can throw his DEET (80%!) away.

Such a simple but effective deterrent for those pesky buzzing things Vashte. Actually I’m finding that natural oils as mosquito repellents are sold in many of the little mini-markets here in the southern islands of Thailand. I couldn’t find any in Australia. Not even in Flanneries!
